Page 4 of 5 — Quotefall Puzzle Description
Continue to enter letters based on earlier hints, such as filling out squares with remaining letters and finishing words that result from that entry.
Here we can see that the first two squares of the third row are the only open squares from that column, so enter the remaining letters from that column.
After you fill in the letters, note the word in which they are located. They are part of a five-letter word that starts on the previous row, and the first four letters of the word is “LEAR.” From the column list, there are four letters that can be used.
Of the four letters, the only letter that can logically be used is the letter “N,” so enter the letter into the appropriate square.
Hint Number 9: Even if you cannot figure out the complete word, you can fill out partial words to help you with the process of eliminating more letters.
Sometimes, the best way to solve a particular portion of the puzzle is to solve a portion of a word to clear out letters in a column. One such example is the first word in the Answer Grid. In the nine-letter word, the first, second, and fifth letters are already included. The first two letters, “QU,” along with the fifth letter “E”, form a portion of a word that can be solved using the available letters.
From the letters remaining, the most logical selection would be the letters that fill out the word “QUOTE.” Now, this is not a cut-and-dried deduction, as the first part of a nine-letter word does not have to be a word in itself. But with the letters given, there are very few words that could start with a “QU” with a fifth letter of “E” that would be logical to use. So we will add the letters “OT” to the first word.
This will now help with trying to put together words.

Now that you filled out the first part of the first word, you can decipher the letters that will form words in the same columns of the Answer Grid. Here, we can figure out the only two-letter word that is available in the third and fourth columns, which is “TO.”
After filling out the word on the bottom row, fill out the remaining letters of the word on the second row with the remaining letters in the third and fourth columns.
Here is the result so far.
